The Importance of Accessories

Accessories: one of the loves in my life. No outfit is complete without them; however, their transformative power is often overlooked. My mission with this post is to show you how one outfit can become something totally new and different by changing how it's accessorized.

The foundation of these two looks is a simple one: a pair of dark washed skinny jeans paired with a white linen peplum top. Let me show you how I've built two unique outfits from it.

Outfit number one is a relaxed neutral look that's casual yet polished and can be worn in a variety of settings. As the queen of head to toe black outfits, I've surprised myself this fall by choosing to wear a lot of lighter neutrals. This look appears effortless and can be worn to work (depending on the dress code), to run errands on the weekend, or to relax by the fireplace with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate (or a glass of wine, or a nice cold beer - you get the idea). I've accessorized the outfit with suede camel booties (similar styles linked here, here, and here), an over-sized scarf, and simple gold jewelry (more on my staple jewelry pieces and love for gold in a later post).

Outfit number two is transformed into a more polished look that would be fitting for the office (again, depending on dress code) and could easily shift from work to happy hour or dinner. The key here for dressing this outfit up is pairing it with a shoe that has a dressier look to it (similar styles: hereherehere, and here) along with a more dramatic piece of jewelry, like a statement necklace (a few great styles are linked herehere, and here). I may have gone a little overboard the past few years with necklaces, and I've built up quite the collection. Having even just a few is a great way to add some sparkle and visual interest to an outfit.

Knowing how to accessorize can magically multiply the number of outfits you have hanging in your closet. Give it a try and see what you can come up with! Be sure you comment below to let me know your favorite ways to accessorize!
