Travel Style 101: A Visit to the Windy City
Big cities are my ideal destination for a long weekend getaway. I love the hustle and bustle, the architecture, and the diverse population. I visited Chicago this past weekend for a bachelorette party for my soon-to-be cousin-in-law, Brittany. The weekend was the perfect mix of exploring the city, trying new restaurants, and getting dolled up to hit the town in celebration of the future Mrs. Sandbulte.
When I travel, my outfit to my destination typically consists of stylish comfort and layers. Layers are key for me because usually by the time I get through security and to my gate, I'm a sweaty mess, but once I'm at cruising altitude I'm shivering and unsuccessfully trying to transform any article of clothing into a blanket. Regulating body temperature is hard, am I right? This is where layers come in very handy for me. As you can see from the pictures below, I didn't skimp on them.
I started my outfit with a simple pair of black leggings and a long-sleeved top with a cute detail at the neckline. I paired this with my super comfortable Sam Edelman suede booties (sold here). To top it off, I added a long black cardigan, a lightweight black scarf, a fun hat, and a black purse. If you're sensing a possible favorite color theme here, you're catching on.
Wearing something besides glorified pajamas on a flight (although I'm not above that; see my return flight outfit below), makes it easy to go straight from flight to sightseeing, meeting, etc. without worrying about making time to change. Upon arrival to Chicago, my sister and I were able to drop our bags at our hotel and take off to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art. And don't be fooled - that silhouette in front of the lights is indeed me, not Beyonce. I totally understand the confusion, though.
The rest of the weekend flew by. Brunching on Saturday morning, cupcakes at Sprinkles, an obligatory trip to the Bean, and of course, the main event: the bachelorette bash. Below are the looks I chose for the rest of the weekend: a casual and comfortable look for a day of walking the city, a sleek look for a night out on the town, and the aforementioned glorified pajamas for the flight home. See you again soon, Chicago!
